What is it for?

This is a general image for this page and conveys no important information.

Allaboutschoolfees.com ® is designed to be a one-stop source of information for all parents who have committed to, or are considering, private education for their children. An average private education, starting at five years old and finishing at eighteen will cost around £145,000; boarding could cost considerably more. The purpose of this site is to help you forecast what private education could cost you (not just rely on average data or guesstimates of what a school might cost). It will help you estimate what you will need to pay and when, and help you create a savings plan that matches your savings with your expenses.

The Allabout Modeller ™

The Allabout Modeller ™ is a unique piece of software that we believe is the first of its kind anywhere in the world. It will help you estimate how your school fee obligations will increase over the course of your child's education, using the current, actual school fees of any* private education establishment in the country, and it will help estimate how much you need to save to meet those fees as they come due. We allow you to forecast for lump sums, savings holidays, changing between schools and for lots of children. You can play with inflation and interest rates, and even input your current savings and see what shortfall or surplus you'll be left with over any period of time. We're very pleased with this piece of kit and hope you'll love it as much as we do.

The Allabout Library ™

Latest figures from the Independent Schools Council suggest that around 630,000 students are independently educated at an average cost of £3,700 per term. That’s more than 7% of all UK schoolchildren (and 18% of children over 16 years old) paying a total of £6.9 billion in fees a year. This represents a huge annual expense for parents. There are hundreds of sites that each will tell you something about private education in the United Kingdom. Some specialise in selecting schools, some in describing schools, many more simply suggest you contact a financial advisor. There is no site that is dedicated to the financial side of things, how much will it cost over time, and what can be done to lessen the strain on the household budget. That’s why we created The Allabout Library ™. We want this to be the single most comprehensive and useful source of information about private education fees anywhere on the web*.

Security of your data

We take personal data security extremely seriously. You need not ever give us your real name, you may pick any account name you like, you can enter your children’s real names if you wish but – and this is specially handy if they’ve not been born yet – you can use nicknames, random names or even the names of their favourite toys; it’s up to you. We won’t even ask for your home address, just your email address and your children’s birthdays (or due dates!).

*Completeness and accuracy of data

We have collected information on over two thousand schools. We've entered hundreds of thousands of data points into the Allabout Modeller ™ and we’ve read many hundreds and hundreds of articles, websites, school brochures and prospectuses. We’d like to say we’ve every piece of information on every school, and the Allabout Library ™ is complete, but this is pretty near impossible. If you find we are missing a piece of information, a bursar's contact details or a useful web link, let us know and we’ll gladly add it in for you. Thank you for helping us make allaboutschoolfees.com ® even better!
